About Olympics

Saints of the God Most High,

We wanted to forward this to all that we not be duped by the seemingly harmless ways of the world. Let it raise our awareness of satan’s schemes to draw men’s hearts, even if unknowingly, to adore and celebrate the false gods of men’s imaginations. Remember, God will not share His Glory with another.

The Olympics are here and it has been clear to me that we should not take anything for granted about them and our participation in watching them, except in the most careful way. Please.

First of all, someone locally sent me these words about the history of the Olympics:

Olympian Games were held in a valley of Greece called Olympia, which is not actually a town, but a shrine to worship Zeus and other gods. The games were part of one of the Greek festivals with the goal seemingly to honor Zeus. The first day of the festival was primarily devoted to sacrifices to the pagan gods. These original games were held every four years from about 776 B.C. to A.D. 394. In 1894, a Frenchman had the games revived.

Quote from Funk & Wagnell’s Encyclopedia:

“An elaborate ceremony traditionally opens the Olympic Games. The athletes parade into the stadium, always led by the Greek team in honor of the founding of the Olympic Games, and with the host nation bringing up the rear. The Olympic Hymn is then played and the official Olympic flag... is raised. A runner then enters the stadium bearing the Olympic torch, lit by rays of the sun at Olympia, Greece, and carried to the present site by a relay of runners. The ceremony closes with release of doves into flight, symbolizing the spirit of the games.”

The torch is still supposedly “lit by rays of the sun at Olympia” according to Funk & Wagnell’s. I don’t want to eat from the wrong tree and say everything having to do with the Olympics is bad—after all I like “Chariots of Fire” as well as the next person, and I do think there are a lot of spiritual parallels in the athletic competitions. Yet, I know roots do matter, for example halloween, xmas, etc.

At least equally important is a quote from a pagan news commentator that said that many people watch the Olympics in order to see the seductive dress of the people participating. There is no question in the universe that the dress of the swimmers, the female gymnasts, the track and field participants, and others would never “fly” in your living room with real people dressed such as that with your loved ones present. So why invite them in? Please be VERY careful, for the Messiah’s sake....

Love,
