Double-mindedness

Double-mindedness

is proclaiming that one yearns

for the sweet things of the Word

while all about one’s mouth

are the crumbs

of the world’s delicacies.

Double-mindedness

is knowing what one should do,

but not doing it consistently;

knowing what should be,

but not leaving behind what is;

teaching principles to others

by which one does not live;

praising the beauty of pathways

one has not walked.

Double-mindedness

is starting anew

over and over again

those things

which seem commendable,

but which we have neither

embraced nor surrendered to.

Double-mindedness

wants to be

without dying,

to have without giving,

to serve without sacrificing,

to be known or respected

without Jesus at the core of life.

It cannot be.
