Old Neighborhoods
No matter what Abraham
once considered
his hometown to be,
from the time God
called him to leave it,
it became unholy,
off limits to him.
When God sets you free,
calls you out,
or delivers you,
don’t let your memories
of what once was
or what once seemed to be
draw you back.
Keep your eyes on the God
of the promise
and refuse to turn aside
to old neighborhoods.
You don’t live there any more.
