The Words of my Groaning
Groping in the din of night
Longing for the dawn
Weaned from loves of lesser things
Reaching for beyond
Something groans from deep within
Weary and fatigued with sin
Wanting to escape this skin
Eager to move on
Limited with words of men
Things I can’t express
Reaching upward toward the light
Somewhere in my breast
Faith has lodged itself in me
Pressing for my liberty
Whispering that I am free
In His Yoke to rest
Drawn to light despite the knife
Cutting in my flesh
Forcing out the many hooks
Wove in satan’s mesh
Changing ever day by day
Brighter light replacing gray
Morningstar has come to stay
To my soul refresh
